Marine Navigation Products

email hgdietz@lowpressure.com Henry G. Dietz the founder of our company, when employed by Radio Engineering Laboratories, Inc. in the 1940s, as manager of operations, was responsible under a contract received from Radiation Laboratories of M.I.T.for the physical design and manufacturer of Loran A Transmitters, now being replaced by GPS. Because of this experience, and as a boatsman owning the trawler pictured here, he was always interested in navigation . One of the things he was aware of, is most boat owners were so interested in today's electronic equipment they never had their compasses corrected. Power loss to their electronic equipment could result in disorientation. The compass corrector kits he developed were used in Desert Storm and resulted in his receiving, as a token of appreciation, a battalion flag inscribed with the signatures of some of the men who used the compass corrector kits to correct the compasses on their tanks. It prevented the troops from being killed by friendly fire due to disorientation when their electronic equipment failed. Using the kits is extremely simple and the cost and time required is minimal.

Prior to developing the compass corrector kit, he manufactured a pelorus and a combination sun compass & pelorus. The pelorus is useful when at anchor to determine if an anchor is holding. By finding the angle between two objects on the shore, a widening of the angle would indicate that the boat is moving closer to the shore. The sun compass can be used for compass correction.
